What does he want your help with? - Marriage & Relationship Goals

When I first heard about Amber's monthly Marriage Goals, my brain was running wild trying to decide what would mine would be. There are many things that I want to work on to be a better wife to Joel. This morning though I remembered something that he's been asking for my help with for a long time.

I've mentioned before that I am a night owl which doesn't work well with Joel's work schedule. He has to get up at 5:15-5:30 so us staying up until midnight wouldn't make for a rested husband. He likes to get up at 4:30 to get in some quiet time first thing but that's pretty impossible for him unless we are in bed by 10:30. This means we have to start getting ready for bed by 10 at the latest.
My mind is going a hundred miles a minute at that time. No matter how early I get up, I'm just not sleepy at  that time.

Joel has asked for my help with this and honestly, I haven't been very helpful.
This month I want to be helpful.
This month I'm going to set new habits.

I don't want to get out of the habit of Husband and I going to bed together and I don't want him to be squeezing in his quiet time on breaks at work or in the evenings. So here's to helping him get to bed by 10:30! We'll see if I actually sleep or wait until he's out and pull out my laptop ha.

Wives (& husbands) I encourage you to ask your spouse something they'd love your help with. You might be surprised at the answer or you might not...

I hope you'll join Amber at A Prioritized Marriage by setting a goal this month to grow as a spouse!

  1. I love going to bed at the same time as Joe, even if one of us stays up later than the other, we still get time together at the end of every day :)

  2. Such a great post! LG and I have the same prob. He likes/needs to go to bed around that time of not earlier and I can't ever get my mind to shut off before 11:00/12:00. But I to am the type that don't want to go to bed at separate times so I do what you do. Wait till he's asleep and pull out the laptop. Lol! Glad I'm not alone In this. Ha!

  3. I think it's so wonderful that you try to go to bed at the same time. My husband and I usually have the opposite problem, where he wants to stay up and I'm tired. We try to meet each other somewhere in the middle so we can spend more time with one another and go to bed at the same time.

  4. I think this is wonderful! My husband and I are the opposite. We try to be in bed going to sleep before 11. I'm super tired by then and don't have to be up until the baby wakes up (between 7-8AM) but Justin is still wide awake, even though he gets up at 6 to be at work at 7.

  5. What a great goal! So many times we think we're being a good spouse but we're missing one very important thing that he asked us to do. If it's not important to us, we just forget about it. But if he's asking something, it's obviously important to him so it should be important to us too. Thanks for the reminder and good luck with your goal! P.S. You should get some herbal sleepytime tea and read before bed. That always makes me sleepy.

  9. YES! :) I had issues with this until I got my MacBook Air. My PC was huge and bulky and always had to be plugged in so it was very much a chore. Now it sits on my nightstand for those nights when 1-2 hrs pass with no sleep! ... I'm finding we have more and more in common here haha.

  13. Girl... I had been wanting a Mac for YEARS and when my computer crashed in December, I couldn't take it anymore. I had been through 3 computers in 6 years and couldn't keep doing the trade off! God really worked it out with a job for me to get one.... and I'm in love. It's amazing.
